A Husband’s Love-Photo Story

Having grown up in New Canaan, for years I have been visiting the Olive W. Lee Memorial Garden around Mother’s Day, for the blooming Azaleas.  George Lee had maintained the garden for 63 years before he died and left it to the Garden Club, which is now called the Beautification League. This sunny morning when I arrived to photograph, the Beautification League volunteers were busy cleaning and pruning the garden with smiles on their faces and friendly hellos.  As I walked along photographing the beauty, I recalled that George, an avid gardener, had created the initial garden for his ailing wife Olive, to enjoy from her window.  When I returned to share this photo, I could not find anything in the search engines to validate this story. So, I contacted a friend who grew up on the road where the garden is located. She quickly responded with a “yes”. The Olive W. Lee Memorial Garden is not only a hidden gem, but a hidden love story. SwickPix Storytellers are helping families save memories one photo at a time.
